How do I get a safety deposit box?

A safety deposit box is a secure compartment located within a high-security vault. The facilities at Svensk Värdeförvaring include multiple layers of protection, such as advanced perimeter security, full surveillance camera coverage, and top-grade alarm systems. A safety deposit box can serve as a complement to—or replacement for—a home safe, as it provides a secure off-site location for storing valuables and important documents. Only the registered customer has access to the contents of their safety deposit box, which is ensured in part through biometric identification.
Traditionally, safety deposit boxes were offered by banks, but these services have largely been phased out. Svensk Värdeförvaring is Sweden’s first non-bank provider of safety deposit boxes, operating outside of the traditional banking system.

A safety deposit box is one of the most secure options available for storing valuables. Each individual box offers security on par with high-grade safes and vaults. In addition, the vaults themselves are certified to high security standards, and the facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art access systems and top-tier alarm technology.

How secure is a safety deposit box?

For example, if you keep important documents or a will in a home safe, there’s a risk that the will may never be found—or that it may be discovered by someone who shouldn’t have access to it. Is insurance included?

Yes. While many of our clients are based in the Stockholm and Gothenburg areas, we also have customers from all over the country. Since most people only visit their safety deposit box a few times a year, many find it perfectly acceptable that the box is not located close to their home.

Can I have a safety deposit box even if I don’t live in Gothenburg or Stockholm?

Can I switch between the Gothenburg and Stockholm facilities?

Yes, there is no limit to how many safety deposit boxes you can rent.

Can I have more than one safety deposit box?

Svensk Värdeförvaring&#8217;s safety deposit box facilities are located in Gothenburg at Östra Hamngatan 16 and in Stockholm at Jakobsbergsgatan 13.

Where are Svensk Värdeförvaring’s facilities located?

No. To become a customer at Svensk Värdeförvaring, you must meet certain requirements. A background check is conducted before you can become a customer to ensure you meet the criteria. You must not have any debts with the Swedish Enforcement Authority (Kronofogden), have been convicted of serious criminal offenses, or appear on the EU sanctions list. Additionally, you must be registered as a resident in Sweden and have a Swedish bank account.

Can anyone become a customer at Svensk Värdeförvaring?

Svensk Värdeförvaring has comprehensive procedures in place to prevent money laundering. This includes conducting background checks on all new customers, and all customers visiting the facility are required to verify their identity both with staff and through an ID scanner. To further reduce the risk of money laundering, the safety deposit boxes are personal, meaning that, as a general rule, you cannot grant power of attorney to another person to access your box. All areas of the facilities are monitored by surveillance cameras.

How do you work to prevent money laundering?

There is no notice period. However, we do not offer refunds for any period that has already been paid for. The agreement is considered terminated once you have returned the keys, emptied your safety deposit box, and signed a termination agreement.

What is the notice period?

You sign a continuous 12-month contract with Svensk Värdeförvaring, but you can terminate the agreement at any time. However, no refunds are given for the period you have already paid for.

Can I rent a safety deposit box for less than a year?

When you rent a safety deposit box from Svensk Värdeförvaring, you receive two keys. If you lose one of the keys, you can bring the other key with you to the facility, and we will replace the lock cylinder for a fee of 1,000 SEK. If you lose both keys, our safety deposit box provider, Gunnebo, will need to drill open the box. Drilling and replacing the lock cylinder will cost 3,000 SEK.

What happens if I lose my safety deposit box key?

First and foremost, we want to emphasize that Svensk Värdeförvaring is well-financed and has strong demand for safety deposit boxes, so there is no indication that we are at risk of bankruptcy. However, in the unlikely event that Svensk Värdeförvaring goes bankrupt, a bankruptcy estate would take over the operations and attempt to sell the business. If the business is not sold, the service will cease, and all customers will be contacted and asked to empty their boxes.

How customers&#8217; property is handled in the event of a bankruptcy is covered by the so-called &#8220;Right of separation&#8221; (Separationsrätten). In short, any property belonging to others is excluded from the bankruptcy or seizure process.

What happens if Svensk Värdeförvaring goes bankrupt?

PEP (Politically Exposed Person) refers to an individual in a politically sensitive position. According to anti-money laundering regulations, we need to know if our customers are considered politically exposed persons in order to make an accurate assessment of the potential risks for money laundering. A politically exposed person is someone who holds or has held significant public functions in a state or international organization, such as a head of state, member of parliament, judge in the Supreme Court, ambassador, senior military officer, or similar roles.

What does PEP mean?

We regularly receive reports from the Swedish State Personal Address Register (SPAR), which informs us if one of our customers has passed away. Once this occurs, Svensk Värdeförvaring will contact the estate of the deceased and schedule an inventory appointment with a representative of the estate. During the inventory, a lawyer from Verahill Familjejuridik will be present to create an inventory protocol, which will be included in the estate inventory report. Once the estate inventory report has been registered with the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket), the estate representative will be able to empty the safety deposit box. Nothing can be removed from the box until the estate inventory report has been registered with Skatteverket.

What happens to my safety deposit box upon my death?

The safety deposit box is personal, meaning that only you, as the holder of the box, have access to it. This personal access is in place to minimize the risk of the box being used as a location for illegal transactions between individuals.

Why is the safety deposit box personal?

Yes. If there is a decision for enforcement by Kronofogden, your safety deposit box at Svensk Värdeförvaring may be included in the execution of the seizure. As a general rule, the debtor will not be notified in advance that the safety deposit box will be opened.

Can the Swedish Enforcement Authority (Kronofogden) seize assets from my safety deposit box?

Yes. If there is a decision from a prosecutor to conduct a search of the safety deposit box, it will be opened. The safety deposit box holder is typically not notified in advance that the box will be opened as part of the search.

Can the police conduct a search of my safety deposit box?

You are not allowed to store weapons, explosives, or chemical substances in a safety deposit box. Property derived from criminal activity and cash are also prohibited. However, collectible and investment coins may be stored in the safety deposit box.
